Baby Atlas // A Birth Story

Our son Atlas was born on March 23rd, 2015 at just 27 weeks. This means he was 13 weeks early and weighed in at 2lb 4oz. Everyone tell us how crazy our story is and even for those of us who experienced it (me, Blaine and my sister, Lauren) it’s hard to believe. Now that it’s been two weeks the flashbacks are fewer and the wounds are less fresh. I’m warning you now: this is a birth story. I will talk about some gross things because giving birth is a bit messy. It’s also very long winded, I want to…

    Welcome, Baby Atlas!

Surprise! I had a baby last Monday! Baby Barker surprised us all with his arrival on March 23rd — 13 weeks early. I had barely broken in my maternity clothes, hadn’t sent out the baby shower invites or been able to book a maternity photo shoot. The day was a handful of surprises including our baby girl actually being a baby boy, his arrival 13 weeks early and an insane birth story that includes giving birth in a car and Atlas getting to ride in a helicopter within minutes of being born.Due to Atlas being a preemie our lives have…

    Impromptu Hiatus & Happy News

I never ever thought I could just take a blogging break for six weeks out of nowhere. I had posts planned for the rest of the year and one small (big) change and it went out the window. I make no apologies, though! I loved taking a break from not only the blog, but the online world and computer in general. Over the last six weeks I have spent no more than 20 hours on the computer, total. In SIX WEEKS. Normally I spend at least 30-40 hours a week sitting on my computer chugging away. However, immediately after our…

    today i am 27

Today I turned 27. I wasn’t sure, so I counted and yes, I’m turning 27. Is this the age where you become speechless? Because I feel like I have nothing to say, but a million things to feel. I feel old. Not old, like “if you’re over the age of 30 you should be insulted by my calling myself old”, old. Just old. Like “didn’t I just turn 18 a year ago? why am I allowed to own a house? have a husband? why do I know so many people with children?” old. It’s just so mind-blowing how quickly life…

    Dear Roxy

Dear Roxy, As I type this the tears are already filling my eyes and my heart aches to be with you for just one more minute. The thought that you’re not here is so surreal and I wonder when I’ll stop expecting to see you in your bed out of the corner of my eye or to hear the slow click of your nails as you walk across the room to get some water. Maybe it’s wishful thinking, maybe it’s because you were always around. You joined our family when I was 13 and left it shortly after you turned…

    Goals // 2012 Recap & 2013 Goals

I’m one of those people who get excited about Monday’s, fresh planners and new beginnings. So a fresh new year gets me so giddy with excitement. Last year I gave myself a little set of goals, let’s see how I did, shall we?   12 Goals for 2012 1. Go on 2 trips, just me and my husband. — Half succeeded (or half fail), we went on one! 2. Read 10 books. — I read 7 that I remember, but it could definitely be more like 10. 3. Take more photos.  — I definitely did this! Thanks, iPhone! 4. Go back…

    A Look Back At 2012

When 2012 began, I had been married just about two months and Blaine still lived 100 miles away. To start out the year, I made some goals which I’d like to reflect on in a post soon. I talked about why I’m a vegetarian in an extremely long post with some funny images. I started and held strong in my Sugar Strike Challenge although I remember my dad trying to tempt me into our weekly cherry pie a la mode treat several weeks in a row. Although it took me a few months, I finally shared a bit about our…

    One Year

October 22, 2011 – the best day ever. Today we get to celebrate one year of marriage and six years of love. The past year has been an amazing one and I could not have asked for a better husband or life. In our first year of marriage we went on our honeymoon to Puerto Vallarta (one, two), hosted our first Thanksgiving, celebrated our first Chistmas as husband and wife,  went on trips to: Disneyland, Pismo Beach, and Mammoth (one, two), got chickens and so much more that I never blogged about. I can’t wait to see what the future…

    Our Wedding.

This post is a month and a half overdue, I know. I’m still waiting on all of the photos from the photographer, but I managed to steal these from her blog.We got married on October 22nd, 2011. The location was Camp Seely, a campsite with cabins that my family has been going to pretty much every year since I was in elementary school. I planned pretty much every detail myself. The food was made by my cousin and her husband, along with various friends and family who lent a hand in the camp kitchen. The official photographer was a classmate…
