    Monterey

Monterey is such a beautiful, wonderful city. Living in southern California all my life, beaches are have consistently been part of my life. But the beaches in southern California are vastly different from beaches up the coast. Head up the coast a couple hundred miles to experience foggy and beautiful instead of hot and crowded? Yes, please. My family and I (aside from Blaine who had to work) headed up to Monterey in August to celebrate my sisters birthday. We stayed in Monterey and ventured into Santa Cruz, Carmel and Pebble Peach. We spent a  lot of time in the…

Foster Pupdate // week one & two

Meet my newest foster pups: Huntington, Catalina, Venice & Malibu. They are four Yorkie puppies who came to the rescue at just 5 days old. Mom got sick and was stuck in the vet after giving birth and moms owner couldn’t handle the puppies on top of her sick dog. Aren’t they just precious? First, hats off to moms who get up with your babies all through the night. The first few days they had to be fed every two hours which meant I got about 1 hour of sleep at a time. I’m still struggling a bit, but now…

Pismo Beach // Hearst Castle & Elephant Seals (Part 2)

Pismo photo explosion! I can’t help it, so many good pictures. We did the Hearst Castle tour on our trip, probably for the 5th or 6th time. Johnny, my brother in law, had never been there before so it’s always cool being there when someone sees it for the first time. It’s such an extravagant place and an interesting story. And the gardens? Something about the gardens totally entranced me this time. I always love the time we spend there, but this time I walked down each pathway admiring and enjoying each beautiful section of floral beauty. It was sunset,…

Pismo Beach Trip // Part 1

While my sister, Lauren, and her husband were in town we took a mini family trip to Pismo Beach. It’s funny how often we end up there off-season and we almost never go during the summer. We drove up on a Thursday and met my mom there who drove up from Los Angeles. We stayed at this little motel by the beach that we stay at almost every time unless we rent a condo or house instead. You can get a room with a little kitchenette which we like so we can have a fridge and have food in the…

A Weekend in Big Bear With Friends

About a month ago we met up with some friends in Big Bear. It was Kim and Kyle’s (one of my besties and her boyfriend) birthday month so they rented a cabin and invited friends to spend the weekend with them. We spent most of our time in our awesome cabin just hanging out and having some (too many?) drinks. I made some new friends and reminisced with my oldest friends. There was lots of spa time, eating and laughing. It couldn’t have been more fun! On our last day we made a stop at our favorite zoo and everyone…

Life Lately // Words & Photos

So much has been going on the last few weeks. Mostly Belle, my foster puppy. If you follow me on Instagram, you’re probably already tired of her sweet face. Just kidding, not possible! I wanted to get more involved with the rescue beyond just working two days a week so I am now fostering this amazing puppy. She is the cutest, fluffiest little ball of fun ever. Except for the accidents in the house and the sleepless nights while I try to crate train her. But I can honestly say I love this little fluffer to death and I hope…

    garden dreaming

Whatever-is-happening-with-the-weather-right-now and I have a love hate relationship. The warmth in the middle of winter is totally welcome. But at the same time here I am dreaming of spring and gardens already when I know I can’t start for at least a couple of months. Since we (ahem, Blaine) finished our fence last year, we can now put our focus on landscaping. We always talked about working on the front yard first. All we want to do is add some grass and some plants since, you know, it’s in the front and everyone can see it. But I don’t know…

    Dear Roxy

Dear Roxy, As I type this the tears are already filling my eyes and my heart aches to be with you for just one more minute. The thought that you’re not here is so surreal and I wonder when I’ll stop expecting to see you in your bed out of the corner of my eye or to hear the slow click of your nails as you walk across the room to get some water. Maybe it’s wishful thinking, maybe it’s because you were always around. You joined our family when I was 13 and left it shortly after you turned…

    Friendsgiving + Thanksgiving

The Saturday before Thanksgiving we were excited to invite all of our friends up for a Friendsgiving feast! Since we live about 100 miles away from everyone we figured it’d be a great way to have everyone come visit. Kim came up to help prepare aka be my chef. She brought a chili rubbed turkey for our “Turkey Taco Thanksgiving” theme. On top of that she brought a lot of other stuff and helped a ton in the kitchen. What would I do without her? We’re such opposites which is hilarious because we’ve been friends since Kindergarten. She’s such a…

Oregon Road Trip // Part 2 – Portland, Bend, Crater Lake & Tahoe

Day 3: We woke up in beautiful Portland. Did I mention that it was not cloudy at all while we were in Oregon? We totally lucked out. When we woke up we headed straight for the food carts down the street. If you’ve been to Portland, you know what food carts are. We are obsessed and must have fit at least four or five food cart meals into our two days in Portland. Blaine got a breakfast burrito and I got a salad roll with peanut sauce. Our plan for the day was the Tilamook Cheese Factory and…
